What makes a website good
Most people judge a website by how it looks, because that is the only part they can see. The parts that decide whether it earns anything sit underneath. Five of them, and each one is worth checking before a build is signed off.
It answers the question in the first five seconds
Someone lands from a Google ad or a search result with one question: can these people do the thing I need. If the top of the page is a mood, they leave. Say what you do, who for, and what happens next, above the fold, in plain words.
It is structured before it is designed
URL structure, page hierarchy and internal links decide what Google can find and how quickly a visitor can get to the page they came for. Retrofitting structure onto a finished design costs more than building it in. Architecture first, always.
It loads before the visitor gives up
Uncompressed hero images, four hosted fonts and a page builder that ships unused code will cost you rankings and a share of your traffic. Speed is not a technical nicety. It is the difference between a visit and a bounce.
It works on the phone in someone's hand
Most traffic arrives on a phone, not a desktop. A site designed on a 27-inch monitor and shrunk down later breaks tap targets, buries the call to action and slows under a mobile connection. Mobile is the primary design, not an afterthought.
It gives the visitor one clear next step
A page with six competing calls to action asks for nothing and gets nothing. Every page carries one primary action, placed where the visitor is ready to take it, with everything else quietly out of the way.
How we build a website
-
01
Discover
The commercial picture first. Revenue goals, current performance, what a customer is worth, and the search demand already sitting there unclaimed. Nothing gets designed until the site has a job.
-
02
Architect
Sitemap, page hierarchy, URL structure and user journeys mapped and signed off. Wireframes prove the path to conversion before a single design decision is made, because retrofitting structure onto a finished design costs more than building it in.
-
03
Design
Designed in Figma against the brand system, page by page, state by state. Every screen reviewed on desktop and mobile before build, and handed over as a component library the internal team inherits.
-
04
Build
Built, tested and loaded with real content. Speed, responsiveness, accessibility and cross-browser behaviour checked properly, and the CMS shaped so the team can edit content without a developer.
-
05
Launch and measure
Tracking verified, redirects mapped, launch handled without downtime. Then performance reviewed against the numbers the site was built to move, with the first review inside 30 days.
